About Robin McGregor

I’m Robin McGregor, and I’m running for the Oakland Community College Board of Trustees because I believe in the power of education to change lives. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of fields, including 35 years at Consumers Energy, where I started in Meter Reading and worked my way up through roles such as a lineman, cathodic specialist, welding inspector, and more. This hands-on experience has shaped my understanding of hard work, dedication, and the importance of providing opportunities for people to build fulfilling careers.

In addition to my career at Consumers Energy, I currently work for Oakland County Parks and Recreation, where I continue my commitment to community development and engagement. I’ve always been passionate about giving back to the community, and over the years, I’ve volunteered with various local organizations and causes, advocating for the needs and rights of our residents.

My Focus as a Trustee:

  • Ensure Access to Free Education: One of my top priorities as a Trustee will be to make sure that every high school student in Oakland County knows they can access two free years of education at OCC. It’s an invaluable opportunity that many students may not be aware of, and I want to ensure we reach out to them early in their educational journey. This program can be the stepping stone they need to pursue their dreams without the financial burden of student loans.

  • Strengthen Community Connections: OCC is an essential part of our community, and as a Trustee, I will work to ensure that every community in Oakland County feels valued for their contributions to the college. By building strong partnerships and creating more opportunities for local involvement, I want to make sure that OCC is not just an educational institution, but a community hub where everyone is heard and appreciated.

  • Develop Programs for Trades and Vocational Education: Not all students are looking for a traditional four-year degree, and that's something we should celebrate. Many students are eager to get started in the trades, and it’s essential that we provide them with the programs they need to gain the skills necessary for high-demand, well-paying careers. I will work to develop and expand vocational training programs at OCC, including in fields like construction, electrical, plumbing, and welding—trades that can lead to lifelong careers with strong earning potential.

I’m running for Oakland Community College Trustee because I am committed to making higher education accessible, strengthening our community connections, and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed—whether they’re pursuing a degree or preparing for a career in the trades. Together, we can make OCC a place where every student’s potential is realized and every community member is valued.
